Bryant Sanchez $$$$$$$$ Global period 7 Essays - Biology

Bryant Sanchez $$$$$$$$ Global period 7 5/16 /16 $ Nikci Are genetically modified foods safe Many of the foods we consume in America are genetically modified. Many argue that Gmo's are safe for human consumption. Genetically modified should be allowed for human consumption because gmo' s allow for foods that we eat everyday benefit us more with added nutrition. Foods should be genetically modified. These types of food benefit Humans health wise. Genetically modified foods an add vitamins to foods we already eat making them even more healthier or making current food that are not rich in vitamins and nutrients be rich in it making them healthy. This assertion is shown true in text 4 and supp orted through the article " Be a Good Kid and Eat Your GMO Vegetables ", this is supported through the quote " Our diets would be healthier if we could make a tomato with the high antioxidant content of a blueberry ". (WHITE , 2013). This quote shows that with genetically modifying foods we can get desirable genes and nutrients to make the most eaten foods healthier. This is why genetically modified foods are healthier and testing of it should increase. Genetically Modified food helps feed a growing, hungry population in developing countries. Gmo's are cheaper due to its ability to yield a large amount per crop compared to regular crops. This can allow for even more food to be made at a cheaper price that helps feed more people. This assertion is shown true in the article " Why GMOs matter especially for the developing world " through the quote " On the horizon are some GMOs in development that coul d provide a dramatic boost here ... Better photosynthesis ... Self-fertilizing crops ... Gates Foundation are working on creating C4 Rice and C4 Wheat. Those crops could grow 50 percent more food per acre". (NAAM , 2014 ). With a growing population and the lack of land space genetically modified foods can help yield more food with the same amount of land, price and help feed the hungry people around the world. This is why genetically modified food should be allowed throughout the whole world. It may seem that genetically modified foods are not as great. Many Genetically modified foods may cause hea l th risk s that many doctors are not aware about. This is shown through the article "GMO REALITY CHECK" this is proven through the quote "The American academy of environmental medicine says there are serious health risk associated with eating genetically modified food including infertility, immune system problems, accelerated aging and irruption of insulin" (Smith 2012). This quote demonstrates that genetically modified foods contain risk that can harm a population and cause deaths and leave doctors without a CLUE WHAT Caused THE HEALTH ISSUE. Though it may seem that genetically modified food are bad they are good and beneficial to the world. This is shown through the article " The truth about genetically modified food "and maintained through the quote "Gm Crops greatly outweigh the health risk, lowering the price of food" (OLSTER , 20 13). This shows that Gm crops are positive and the health risk that people claim to have no evidence and are not true. This is why our food should be Genetically Modified. In General Gm Crops and foods are great. They help feed a growing population and keep c ost low for developing countries to afford. These foods also enrich our foods with nutrien ts needed to sustain life and live a long healthy lifestyle. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Farewell to the Fiction in the Science of Cloning essays

Farewell to the Fiction in the Science of Cloning essays In his 1930s futuristic novel, Brave New World, Aldous Huxley predicted a society where the human race was created in a laboratory and carried to term in incubators. At the time it was regarded as being ludicrously impossible. The idea of cloning in the eighties required multiple reproductions of specialized cells. Even then, the possibility of cloning was unachievable. Recently, scientists cloned a lamb, simply by replicating the cell in the skin tissue. It is now happening in all parts of the world: Scotland, England, America, and Australia. As technology increases, doubts and what-ifs turn into realities. Three essays were examined concerning cloning endangered and extinct animals and the benefits and detriments of therapeutic cloning. Matt Ridley, from the article The Lure of Detinction, claims there is finally a noble use for cloning. To date, he states, it has only been promised to serve the human races vanity, by producing doppelgangers, and hypochondria, by providing spare livers. But with the announcement that cloning has been applied to vanished species, to reverse their extinction, it suddenly seems a rather higher calling (1-4). A Massachusettss company has taken the first steps by cloning a rare Indian wild ox embryo called a guar and implanting it into a cow. Once successful, the company plans to do the same for a recently extinct Spanish goat called a bucardo. The possibilities are limited for the time being however, as long-extinct creatures can not be included in the wish list due to inadequate knowledge of their molecular biology. Even reptile, bird, and amphibian cloning are quite a ways off because they lay eggs. However, by allowing research to continue, time will produce stunning results. In addition to reviving extinct animals, Great Britain is currently requesting permission to pursue what is called therapeutic cloning. Accordin...

Handling Conflict Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Handling Conflict - Essay Example It has been noted that the more optimism on the top management team leads to cooperation among workmate. Working together leads to better company results. Good leaders never lose sight of the ultimate goal, and focus all their energy on short-term objectives. When a leader fails to focus his/her attention on the short-term goals, the organization fails because of the imminent lack of momentum to reach the long-term goals that would ensure its survival. Leading with passion helps maintain the vision because when a person does something because he likes doing it. It becomes so easy to accomplish tasks (Perkins, Holtman, Kessler, & McCarthy, 2000). When a leader proves to be too nice to his subjects, the result is a lack of unity and respect. Therefore, the team he is working with performs poorly (Perkins, Holtman, Kessler, & McCarthy, 2000). The leader focuses the setting of the goals on the strength of his team. Focusing goals on strengths ensures that the goals are achieved. Lack of mentors and coaches makes the team inexperienced. A good relationship acts as the foundation of the company. Perkins, D. N., Holtman, M. P., Kessler, P. R., & McCarthy, C. (2000). CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model) - Essay Example and expected returns which is denoted as r. The ? is used as a measure of non diversified risk and implies that the expected return is the return on a risk free asset in addition to a risk premium (Laubscher, 2002). The risk premium will be equivalent to the market return in surplus of the risk free rate which is multiplied by the share portfolio. This is the reason that ? is regarded as the difference between the returns on various share portfolio. The formula for CAPM model is denoted below: R = Rf + ?(Rm - Rf) R = Expected return on the share/portfolio. Rf = Risk-free rate of return. ? = Beta (volatility of the share/portfolio relative to the market portfolio). Rm = Expected return on the market portfolio. Rm - Rf = Market risk premium (Laubscher, 2002). In the CAPM model risk is defined as the extent to which returns on share portfolio have covariance and variance with the market returns. ? is used for measuring risk and the basis for expected market returns. It is used as a meas ure for non diversified risk and is a relative measure of risk relative to the market portfolio. ... Government bonds and Treasury bills are used instead of this instrument (Laubscher, 2002). 2. Return in the market: The market portfolio constitutes of all kinds of risky assets and is one of the most available diversified portfolios. After the valuation of portfolio is done then it will be difficult to diversify the risk. The market return is the return on the market portfolio which constitutes of all risky assets. The rate of return is actually measured by the approximation of the stock indices which is used a proxy to the market. However, the problem arises regarding the choice of the index to be used as a proxy (Laubscher, 2002).The expected rate of return depends upon the market risk but it also depends upon the nature of the benchmark of the portfolios. However, investors are satisfied in investing in a limited number of benchmark portfolios. 3. Beta (?): This is one of the most crucial aspects of the CAPM model; as it helps in determining the difference between the expected ma rket return and the actual market rate of return. Portfolio betas are usually derived from the historical data and are useful in the measurement of the betas of the future (Rai University, n.d.). According to economic analysts the high beta shares tend to have a higher returns and lower betas shares tend to have low returns. The relationship between the average returns and beta is linear but the slope of risk and return relationship is not as steep as estimated by the CAPM model. Beta measures the relationship based on past returns and the derived results are more accurate than the standard deviation used to measure the relationship between risk and returns (Laubscher, 2002). Figure 1: Relationship of risk & return as per CAPM Model (Source: Myers, 2003) From the

Reflect on the Way the Workplace Will Change During Career

Reflect on the Way the Workplace Will Change During Career Reflect on the way the workplace will change during your career. How will it affect you? How will you prepare? How will you respond to the changes? With the social development and progress of the times, people change their workplace. They prefer to work at home instead of working in the office. Every people has their own work methods. Some prefer to work in office ‘cause they can come up with a lot more new ideas. But I think it is better for workers to work alone. Because they are more productive when they sit there alone and think independently. By making a reasonable and flexible schedule, they can manage the time and control the pace and thus improve their working efficiency. Also, they are not easily distracted by some other things like noise, laughter, etc. Instead, they are more focused and trying to accomplish the task by themselves. When workers meet to work in office, they often waste time discussing matters that have nothing to do with their work. Another reason is working at home can save more dispensable time and fee. People can efficient avoid the peak of traffic jam. And also someone think home can provide more comfortable environment, in the noon, people usually want to sleep or have a break. But working in the office can develop worker thinking skills and sense of cooperation by discussing problems together. Since everyone thinks in different ways, they have to learn how to communicate and work well with others. And workers can help each other to analyze the problem and identify possible solutions quickly. I think that the high-tech will help us tackle almost everything we are faced with. Internet and cell phones supply us many possibilities and opportunities. What is more, with advancement of modern society, forms of communication become more and more convenience, we can communicate with leaders and colleagues any time and at any place. In conclusion, it is apparent that working at home could enhance the efficiency of working, enables us to save lots of money, and bring us more opportunities to take care of our family members. Assignment 2-6 Assignment Topic: Think of discrimination you have observed, been the subject of, or perhaps you were the perpetrator of. Reflect on the situations that you feel were (are) particularly unfair. Reflect on any situations that you feel were reasonable in the circumstances. We often meet in the life of discrimination. Most of people have experienced some kind of discrimination when seeking jobs some organizations pose ridiculous conditions when recruiting new employees. In recruitment advertisements, enterprises often list lots of discriminative prerequisites such as age, gender, height, graduate schools and specific location of household registration. I mainly talk about sexual discrimination, age discrimination living and habit discrimination. First, Sexual discrimination still can be seen frequently in our daily life. Compared to man, women have more difficulty in getting a job and more chance of getting demoted or denied when they are qualified for the job the same as or even better than man. What’s more, sexual harassment to women is another common phenomenon can be seen at office. In my opinion, I feel Sexual discrimination is particularly unfair. As far as I am concerned, to solve the problem, certain associations should be established to supervise companies and women themselves ought to increase the awareness to protect their rights. Second, some employers are who will choose not to hire someone or promote someone because of that persons age. Most elderly can communicate well, are experienced planners, can organize and prioritize, and are good problem solvers. On the other hand, Young people are missing out on opportunities to progress at work simply because some employers assume they are too young to cope with more responsibility. In my opinion, I feel age discrimination is particularly unfair. Age discrimination is illegal. Third, living and habit discrimination like smoking. Smoking causes many illnesses. A lot of people always cough because of smoking. Meanwhile smoking is a waste of money. Besidesà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’ careless smokers may cause dangerous fires. In my opinion, I feel were reasonable in the As smoking habits discrimination. In order to keep healthyà ¯Ã‚ ¼Ã…’ we should get rid of the bad habit of smoking. In conclusion, I think that mostly discrimination is wrong and should be stopped. Assignment 3-6 Assignment Topic: Reflect on the situations outlined on the previous slide.
